From Pastor Jim's Point of View

Dear Friends,

Everyone understands that the place we sit determines what we see.  Let me tell you what I see from the chair in which I sit.

I see a missional church rich in heritage.  I see people engaged in ministry all over town, ignited by the power of the Spirit.  I see a downtown location ripe with opportunities for mission in our backyard.  I see us poised for even greater impact in the months ahead.

As part of the First Pres family, you are part of it all.  You are playing a role in something bigger than yourself.  Do you know that?  Do you really know that?

We can't possibly tell all the stories of lives changed, children served, or hurts mended because of you.  Because of your willing hearts, we can make a difference!

As we focus our efforts at being a missional church, let me simply say "Thank You."  Thank you for your willing hearts and hands.  Thanks to you - and God in you - we can celebrate a season of so much ministry!

Opportunities for Supporting Ministry

Core Giving
Pledges and non pledged giving to the core ministry of First Pres provide the primary financial support for day to day ministry and operational costs.

Designated Giving
Designated gifts provide a way for you to make special gifts for a specific ministry or program.

Capital Fund 
This helps meet First Presbyterians needs for new or renovated building space to support our growing ministries.

First Presbyterian Church of Colorado Springs Foundation
Life-time gifts and gifts through your estate plan can be made to advance your passion for God's Kingdom through endowment giving.  Brochures on the First Presbyterian Church of Colorado Springs Foundation are available in the church information brochure racks. 

Special Offerings
The special offerings listed below provide essential funding for First Pres ministries and programs. Many opportunities for mission, ministry and growth would not be possible without the additional support these offerings bring:

  • Deacons Offering is taken throughout the year to support Community Assistance, Ministry to the Bereaved and other Ongoing Caring Ministries.
  • Get Set Offering is taken continuously to support the ongoing ministry of our preschool for underprivileged 4 & 5 year olds of the Colorado Springs Community.
  • The One Great Hour of Sharingoffering is taken on Palm Sunday every year in support of emergency and disaster relief and efforts to help the poor and needy.  Through 2009, this offering will be dedicated to the expansion efforts of the local Marian House Soup Kitchen, as well as the work of Ecumenical Social Ministries (ESM) and the Springs Rescue Mission.
  • Missions Offering is used for special purposes from time to time.
  • Camps Offering is taken prior to the camping season to support individuals in need of financial aid. 
  • Crown the Year with a Gift for the King is our end of the year offering taken in December to enable First Pres to complete the year with a balanced budget.

* Boxed numbered giving envelopes are NOT necessary unless you are giving cash.  However, you may request them through the Stewardship Office (884-6190) for your own personal convenience.

*With electronic transfer, your entire gift goes to the church.  When using a credit card, as much as 3% of your gift can go to the credit card company.

Although many pay off their credit cards each month, many also do not.  We do not want to encourage someone to go into debt and pay interest on gifts given to the church.
