Spiritual Growth

"In the spiritual life, the word discipline means 'the effort to create some space in which God can act.'  Discipline means to prevent everything in your life from being filled up.  Discipline means that somewhere you're not occupied, and certainly not preoccupied.  In the spiritual life, discipline means to create that space in which something can happen that you hadn't planned or counted on."

~ Henri Nouwen

Despite popular opinion, being a follower of Jesus doesn’t only mean going to church every Sunday and being busy with Christian activities.  And when Christ proclaimed the “ Kingdom of God,” he didn’t just mean heaven.  The invitation to follow Jesus is his offer to take what is broken and make it whole, take what is sick and make it well, take what is good and make it better.  And God does this work starting here and now when we are willing to make the space in our lives to let him transform us.

Under spiritual formation, you'll find guidance and resources to help you not only create space in your life for God, but to help you maximize His influence during your time with Him.

On Wednesday Nights at First Pres, there are specific courses designed to equip believers for spiritual growth and activities.  Check out all the offerings by clicking on the navigation button to the left.
