Missions in our backyard...making a difference in our community.
I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me. Matthew 25:37-40
In response to Jesus' command to "meet the needs of the least of these," you are invited to put your faith into action in our community. A variety of opportunities to love and serve are available! To the homeless, the hungry, the working poor, the sick, the lonely, the elderly, the young, and those in prison, you can be the love of Christ!
So many are hungry for His touch, His love, his smile. And others can experience that through you! Helping host homeless families in our facility, building a Habitat home, making bedrolls for the homeless, and feeding the hungry are just a few of the many ways you can serve! Whether you want a one-time experience or an ongoing commitment, there are many opportunities to be a living example of God’s grace and mercy.
Check out the Opportunities To Serve by clicking on the navigation button to the left. Expand your horizons and explore new ways to translate God's love into action as you grow as His disciple.

INTERFAITH HOSPITALITY NETWORK
Interfaith Hospitality Network (IHN) – IHN churches provides families in homeless situations with a safe, homelike shelter, one of which is First Presbyterian Church, where the family can stay together and share meals, as parents work with a case manager to acquire employment and affordable housing. This makes it possible for them to have an opportunity to return to a sustainable lifestyle. Volunteers assist during this period with food, activities, and as evening/overnight hosts. Our next host week is April 15 - 22. Volunteers are needed to provided food, meals and serve as evening, activity and/or overnight hosts. To sign up to help, click here.
Young Lives
Tuesday evenings teen moms come to the Weber Street Center to learn about Jesus while having food and fellowship with mentoring moms and grandmas. You can bless these young ladies and their precious babies by providing a meal or helping mentor them during their Bible studies or times of fellowship. For more information, call Cindy Johnson, 331-8196.
One Congregation/One Family
Many families with working parents remain in homelessness for lack of funds to pay the deposit and first month's rent on an apartment, and who have little or no family or other support systems. A community effort is underway to pair a mentoring team (3-6 trained volunteers) with one family or senior in order to help them move out of homelessness. The next training for mentoring team volunteers is Monday, February 13, 6:30 p.m. in the Weber Street Center. Mentors are NOT responsible for any funding, but they will help guide the family toward self-sufficiency with finanacial tools and training that is provided, relational and spiritual support, and they will help guide these families towards achieving their personal goals. Questions? Call Michelle, 884-6111.
