LORD, WE LIFT YOUR NAME ON HIGH!
"That is the essence of music ministry at First Presbyterian Church. Hundreds of people, young and old, singing and playing instruments to the glory of God and enjoying the shared calling of leading God's people in worship and joyful fellowship!"
--James DeJarnette, Minister of Music

Every Sunday morning, as worshipers enter the Sanctuary for worship at 8:20 and 9:45, the majestic sounds of our organ and the welcoming smiles of our glorious Sanctuary Choir greet them. The choir lifts our hearts and minds upward in joyful songs of praise to our Lord and Savior.
Our services include a rich blend of musical styles, drawing from the wealth of church music heritage as well as the most current of praise literature. Our dynamic worship band, along with inspiring soloists and trumpet trio, join forces with the choir at every worship service to lead our congregation in glorifying God!
SPECIAL SERVICES AND CONCERTS
Throughout the year, the Sanctuary Choir provides a wide variety of musical offerings for concerts and worship at special services, especially during the holy seasons of Lent and Advent.
Christmas Joy!, presented annually at the Pikes Peak Center, features the Sanctuary Choir, the Colorado Springs Children’s Chorale, and the renowned handbell ensemble, The Pikes Peak Ringers, accompanied by a full orchestra and jazz band.
Our nation’s Independence Day is celebrated through our Patriotic/Gospel Concert, with the choir singing American favorites and upbeat gospel music, accompanied by an instrumental ensemble and soloists.
Rehearsals are held on Wednesdays from 6:15 to 8 p.m. in the Adult Choir Room. Childcare expenses incurred by members of the choir are covered as a gift of the ministry.
Please register your children (Birth through Kindergarten) for childcare for rehearsals by CLICKING HERE. Once registered, please contact us each week by noon on Wednesday as to whether your children will be attending or not at 719.884.6139 or email@example.com. This helps us better staff for your children and also eliminates the cost of staffing an unoccupied nursery if childcare is not needed.
The Sanctuary Choir is open to all! We welcome anyone who desires to sing to the glory of God.
Children's Music Ministry
Wednesday Nights, 6:30-8:00 p.m.
Children are a blessing from the Lord and music is a wonderful way to praise Him and learn Biblical truths. The children's music ministry at First Pres seeks to transform the lives of children, preschool through eighth grade, by sharing the gospel and love of Jesus Christ through music, movement, prayer and small group activities during Wednesday night programming.
Equipping children to apply what they are learning is an important part of our programming. The kids will prepare music for various Sunday morning worship services and the special Children's Christmas Eve service. Click here for more information.
Summer Music Camps
During the summer, First Pres conducts three music camps, intended to enrich the musical and spiritual lives of children and youth. Directed by professional musicians, these camps will challenge, encourage, and inspire. In addition to the Strings Camp and Handbell Camp, we will host an ORFF Camp and Fine Arts Workshop. All camps culminate in a performance experience. Click here for specific camp information.
The Brass Ensemble
The Brass Ensemble at First Presbyterian is a group of experienced brass players who perform in various venues throughout the year. The group is featured in Sunday morning worship services about once a month. They also play for Sunday School classes, Fellowship Hall seasonal events, and outside of church activities.
Members are experienced adults and very experienced high school and college students who play trumpet, cornet, French horn, trombone, baritone, and tuba. The brass ensemble plays a variety of sacred, gospel and spiritual music.
This ensemble has been meeting for more than 25 years and is under the direction of Stephen Hock. New members are invited to play in rehearsal for the director to determine parts and level of proficiency. Mr. Hock can be reached through the church music office at (719) 884-6113, at his home (488-9791) or through his email address: firstname.lastname@example.org.
Rehearsals are scheduled weekly on Wednesday evenings from 4:30-5:30 p.m. in the Sanctuary Choir Room.
The Vivace Ringers adult handbell choir is part of a thriving program at First Presbyterian! Performance opportunities abound as the handbell choir leads worship at various services and presents programs to Sunday School classes, special church functions, and in the community at large.
The Vivace Ringers meet weekly from 7:00-8:45 p.m. on Tuesdays. If you are interested in becoming part of this growing ministry or want more information, contact Jan Weiser through the church office at 884-6113 or by email at email@example.com.
