Save Date for Lazarus Life Retreat - A church-wide retreat featuring author and First Presbyterian member Stephen W. Smith has been set for Friday night and Saturday morning, September 5 and 6.

The retreat, entitled "Experiencing the Lazarus Life: Learning To Really Live," is based on Smith's newly released book, "The Lazarus Life".  Smith will explore the following topics at the retreat:

  • How can I really live the life Jesus promised?
  • Working through disappointment with God, myself and others.
  • Hearing the Three Words that can change my life forever!
  • Removing the grave clothes that hold us back.
  • Embracing a transforming community.
  • Experiencing the touch of love that frees us to live.

Smith will preview the retreat messages when he delivers the Sunday sermons on August 31.

The Friday, September 5, retreat session will be from 6:00-8:30 p.m.  The Saturday session will be from 8:00 a.m. to 12 noon.  The retreat will be in Fellowship Hall both days.  Registration for the retreat is $35 per person, which includes a copy of Smith's new book, "The Lazarus Life."

Childcare will be provided for infant through kindergarten at an additional cost of $10 per child per day.  Childcare registration is required by September 2.

For more information or registration, drop by the Congregational Support Desk on the first floor of Hansen Hall or phone 719.884.6144.

Building began on our 6th Habitat house on Saturday, June 14, and will continue on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays  through October.  This year's effort is especially exciting as we are building for the Grants -- a family in our congregation.

No experience is necessary to volunteer as part of the build crew.  Our biggest work crews are needed on Saturdays when we have adequate building supervision.  But mid-week crews also have been added as we are behind schedule due to the complexity of the 2-story home.  Many volunteers are needed to achieve our goal of seeing the Grant family moved in before the holidays.

Lunch will be provided each Saturday.  The work day includes two shifts.  The morning shift begins at 8:30 a.m. and the afternoon at 12:30 p.m., but volunteers must arrive a half hour early to participate in the safety training session.  Volunteers may work both shifts.

Eye protection and a hard hat will be provided by Habitat.  More details and a Volunteer Signup Form are available by following this link to our Habitat page

Bible Study at Flying Horse -
A summer Bible Study and Prayer Group is meeting in the Flying Horse Development at the north edge of Colorado Springs as a first step towards building a community that could one day become part of a First Presbyterian Church multi-site strategy.

The gatherings meet in The Club at Flying Horse, 1880 Weiskopf Point, from 7:00-8:00 on Wednesday nights.  Teaching responsibilities are shared by various staff members.

The study and prayer time is open to any who are interested in exploring the possibility of a First Presbyterian community in north Colorado Springs.  Feel free as well to invite friends from the area who are not connected with a church.

Meetings will be in the Thomas Blake Room, downstairs in The Club.
Childcare is available by phoning the Flying Horse Kid’s Club at 719.494.0114.  Staffing is based upon advance reservations, so please reserve space early.

In order to facilitate planning for the meetings, please contact Pam Bland at 719.884.6102 or by email at pbland@first-pres.org to indicate you will be attending.

New Congregational Interface Desk Opens for Business - As part of the Congregational Interface Department's effort to streamline the registration and ticket purchase process, a new reception desk has opened on the first floor of Hansen Hall at the top of the stairs close to the Plaza reception desk.

Now, one central location will accept registrations for camps, RSVPs for lunch meetings, and sign-ups for events.   The new reception desk also will sell event tickets.

Hours are from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on weekdays, with extended hours until 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday Nights at First Pres.  The Congregational Interface desk will not be staffed on Sundays, except prior to all-church events or public concerts for ticket sales.

On any other Sunday morning, the Plaza and Narthex receptionists will be happy to assist you.  Event ticket sales will typically be handled through the Narthex reception desk.
