MOPS 2016-2017      Theme: We are perfectly Designed

Weekly on Thursday mornings 8:45am-11:30am

Session One: September 15 - January 26

When God created us, He made us in His image, perfectly designed as a woman, mother, wife and friend.  He created us with wonder, hope and kindness.  Daily as the mother of a pre-schooler, life has a way of draining wonder out of us.  We start to lose our sense of who we are as our lives meld together into the lives of our children.

Sometimes we need to look for God’s light even when darkness is enveloping.  This year we will search out WONDER like our lives depend on it.  Wonder will bring us home to ourselves.  We will have HOPE; the belief that it all matters.  Hope is the awareness that there is more to the story, as there is usually a kindred spirit within.  And finally, let’s invoke a movement of KINDNESS.  When the task of changing the world feels overwhelming, perhaps all we need to do is make a ripple.”

When we realize that we are God’s perfect design, “It is opening our eyes to wonder and choosing hope over fear.  It is significant acts of kindness that send ripples of light into the world.  It is a choice to live fully and wholly and to breathe our way back to life.”  Let’s run wildly toward, WONDER, HOPE, and KINDNESS, and choose to embrace ourselves as “God’s Perfect Design.”

I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.  Psalms 139:14

What is MOPS?

MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) is a dynamic, worldwide program designed to nurture mothers with young children from infancy through kindergarten.  MOPS is a relevant and caring network, making moms better moms through trusted resources and relationships

A Typical MOPS Morning:

8:45-9:00 Check children into childcare

9:00-11:15 Program (breakfast included)

11:15-11:30 Gather children from childcare

Childcare:  The nursery staff is eager to help make the transition from home to childcare smooth for you and your children.  Childcare is offered on a space-available basis to women attending MOPS, and offers professional, loving care for infants – 3 year olds, including story time and snacks.  The MOPPETS program for potty trained kids ages 2 – 6 features activities planned to contribute to your children’s social, physical and creative development, and spiritual enrichment.  Moms are contacted by pager if a child has a special need during the morning.  Babies younger than four months are welcome to join their mothers during MOPS.  We regret we cannot accommodate daycare children, children who are ill, or those whose mothers are not in attendance.

Parking:  Free parking is available in the lot on the southeast corner of Bijou and Weber streets or in the YMCA/First Pres parking structure on Bijou Street.  Enter First Pres. through the glass doors on Weber Street.

Mom's Empowered

As part of Growing Together Wednesdays, fall session begins September 7, from 6:15-7:45p.m, room 307.

Bible Study:  Entrusted by Beth Moore

In 6 once-a-month sessions we will be encouraged to guard what God has entrusted to us through the study of the 2nd letter of Paul to Timothy. Just as Paul mentored Timothy, we are called to share Christ with others and pour into future generations.  We were never meant to take this journey of faith alone or in secret.  Sharing our joys and hardships with other Moms will help us to stay the course and live a life of faithfulness.

Book Study:  Boundaries by Dr. Henry Cloud and Dr. John Townsend

Throughout the year we will read and study together Boundaries.  Boundaries are personal property lines that define who you are and who you are not, and influence all areas of your life.  The authors will give you biblically based answers to tough questions and show you how to set healthy boundaries with your parents, spouses, children friends, coworkers and even yourself.
