During the summer months, First Pres sponsors three camps intended to enrich the musical and spiritual lives of children and youth.  Directed by professional musicians, these camps will challenge, encourage, and inspire.  All camps culminate in a performance experience.

Handbell Camp (June 15-19, 2009)
Handbell Camp is intended for students entering third through twelfth grades. The participants will be divided into groups according to ability. Instruction groups, directed by Jan Weiser, will be held at First Presbyterian Church in the adult choir room and the youth choir room. Activities include music reading games, bell ringing techniques and concert preparation. Snacks are provided. The cost for this entire week of fun is only $10.

Piano Camp (July 13-17, 2009)
New this year, the Piano Camp will feature six experienced First Pres pianists delivering a unique mentoring experience for aspiring students.  This team of piano teachers will coach 24 selected students in the art of church music. The goal is to develop not only the skills for worship leadership, but the heart as well.  Young pianists will be instructed in the art of hymn playing, accompaniment, improvisation and sacred solo arrangements.  In addition, the instruction will cover an introduction to a variety of keyboard experiences, including organ, piano, harpsichord and electronic keyboard.  Students from late elementary through college age will benefit from the one-on-one tutoring with an outstanding faculty.  Registration is $40.

String Camp (July 20-24, 2009)
Intended for advanced string players, middle school through college-age, this five-day camp consists of indvidual and group instruction and concludes with an evening concert, allowing students to perform along side professional coaches in a city-wide ensemble.  Students will have the opportunity to perform solos, duets, or quartets, and receive expert instruction throughout the week.  This provides a non-threatening, fun, musical experience which incorporates both sacred and classical music to the glory of God.  Registration fee is $70.
