Make a Bequest in Your Will

A bequest in your will is an easy way to provide a legacy gift to benefit the ministry of First Pres.

Benefits of making a bequest:

  1. Your assets remain in your control during your lifetime and you can modify your bequest plans if your circumstances change.
  2. There is flexibility in how you plan your bequest: you can give a percentage of your estate; you can give the rest and remainder of your estate; you can give a specific sum or a specific piece of property.

The language for a bequest:

“I hereby give and bequeath to First Presbyterian Church of Colorado Springs Foundation ___% of the rest and remainder of my estate.
(or) the rest and residue of my estate.
(or) the sum of $___.
(or) the following property______.
for the ______(your name) Fund for _____(your designated purpose of use of the funds).
(or) as an unrestricted gift."

If the bequest is for a specific purpose, the following language may be inserted:  “If there is no longer a need for the original designation of the gift, the Board of Directors of the First Presbyterian Church of Colorado Springs Foundation may redirect the gift to another purpose, keeping in mind my original intent.”
